Sorta With another raucous and record-setting crowd cheering her on, Alexandra Eala comes up short in singles against Ekaterina Alexandrova, falling 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. But the 20yo from the Philippines isn't done just yet. She and Indonesia's Janice Tjen are through to the semifinals of the doubles draw.
🔥 Jack's Back! In Davis Cup action, Jack Draper defeats Viktor Durasovic, 6-2, 6-2, in his first competitive match since the US Open. The world #13, who's been out of commission for the last 6 months with a bone bruise in his left arm, heads to Rotterdam next week for his ATP Tour return.
👀 Baptiste Goes Big Wildcard Hailey Baptiste fights past #5 seed Liudmila Samsonova, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, for her second Top 20 win of the week. The 24yo American, who will crack the top 50 for the first time next week, is through to her first ever WTA semifinal.
🔥 Unbreakable Oliynykova Oleksandra Oliynykova saves 21 of 23 break points, the highest rate at tour level since full data tracking began in 2021, to upset (4) Wang Xinyu, 6-4, 6-4. The 25yo Ukrainian, who goes by the nickname Sashka, reaches her first semifinal in just her second tour-level main draw.
🎾 Such Great Heights Qualifier Sara Bejlek reaches her first tour-level semifinals at the WTA 500. The 20yo wins the first 10 games against Sonay Kartal en route to a 6-0, 6-2 rout, after already walloping last year's runner-up, Ashlyn Krueger, 6-3, 6-0, in round 1.
🎯 Felix Feelin' Fine Felix Auger-Aliassime takes down wildcard Stan Wawrinka, 6-4, 7-6³, in his first match since retiring at the Australian Open. The Canadian owns a Tour-leading 86 indoor wins since the start of the decade, with seven indoor titles. He faces (6) Arthur Fils in the quarterfinals.
👶 Call of (Daddy) Duty With a new baby at home, Casper Ruud isn't keen to leave the nest so soon. The world #12 withdraws from next week's Dallas Open to spend time at home in Norway. Ruud reached the Dallas final last year.
🚨 An Italian Stallion Luca Nardi really has his friend's number. The Italian defeats #2 seed Flavio Cobolli, 6-2, 6-3, to earn his third Top 20 win in Montpellier. Nardi now has a 4-0 career head-to-head with Cobolli, who heads to Dallas after back-to-back 1st round losses.
📰 Another Term at the Top Andrea Gaudenzi will stay on as the ATP's top executive. The Italian will retain his position through 2028, which coincides with the introduction of a 10th Masters 1000 event in Saudi Arabia.
