🌟 Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Talia Gibson continues one of the best qualifying runs in Indian Wells history, toppling world #7 Jasmine Paolini, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, to reach the quarterfinals. The 21yo West Australian rips 42 winners and collects her first top 10 victory, capping three consecutive top 20 scalps over Ekaterina Alexandrova, Clara Tauson, and Paolini. Gibson is the first qualifier to reach the Indian Wells quarterfinals since Lesia Tsurenko in 2015.
🔥 Following Noah's Arc Arthur Fils rallies from 0-5 down in the 2nd set tiebreak to dispatch #9 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-3, 7-6⁹, and reach back-to-back Indian Wells quarterfinals. The 21yo Frenchman, returning from a back stress fracture that cost him 8 months on the sidelines, becomes the third Frenchman to make repeat runs to the Indian Wells quarterfinals after Yannick Noah and Thierry Tulasne. It's his 8th career top 10 win and first since Monte-Carlo 2025.
🎯 Federer Every Round Carlos Alcaraz stays unbeaten in 2026, rallying from a set and a break down to dispatch Arthur Rinderknech, 6-7⁶, 6-3, 6-2. The world #1 says opponents consistently produce their best tennis against him, and the numbers suggest he keeps finding a way regardless: 70 wins in his last 75 matches dating to last April, including a 32-match outdoor hard-court winning streak. Alcaraz fires 22 forehand winners and wins 12 of the final 16 games. He faces #13 seed Casper Ruud on Wednesday.
🎾 Markdown Match-up There was a bunch of excitement for this one... but it didn't pan out to the match we were all hoping for. Aryna Sabalenka, fresh off announcing her engagement to Georgios Frangulis, dispatches 4-time slam champion Naomi Osaka, 6-2, 6-4, without dropping serve. Still, the world #1 fires 8 aces with zero double faults and extends her run to 14 consecutive WTA quarterfinals, the longest such streak since Justine Henin reached 25 straight between 2006 and 2008.
🚨 Sonay Playstation Sonay Kartal rallies from a set down to stun #15 seed Madison Keys, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, and reach the Indian Wells 4th round for the 2nd straight year, the first British woman to manage the feat. The world #54 is playing through a back injury that forced a medical timeout during her 2nd round win over Emma Navarro, where she saved match point. Kartal faces reigning Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina on Wednesday.
⚔️ Roger That Iga Swiatek meets Karolina Muchova on Wednesday in what promises to be the marquee women's match of the round. The world #2 skipped both Doha and Dubai (a first since 2021) to complete a training block in Warsaw, and says the extra court time helped her adapt to conditions. Swiatek leads the head-to-head but expects a battle, recalling previous meetings where she trailed by a break in the third set.
👶 Diaper Duty Casper Ruud faces world #1 Carlos Alcaraz on Wednesday trailing 1-5 in their head-to-head (0-4 on outdoor hard courts), but the Norwegian has bigger wins on his mind. Ruud and his wife Maria welcomed their first child, a daughter, in January, and the 27yo says FaceTime calls home provide an extra reason to compete. His father and coach Christian, who became a dad himself at 26, guides Casper through this latest chapter.
👀 Why Not Me? Joao Fonseca dispatches Tommy Paul in straight sets and faces #1 seed Jannik Sinner in the 4th round on Wednesday. The 19yo Brazilian tells reporters he's confident in his level after top-15 wins over Karen Khachanov and Paul, but acknowledges there's still work to do on his mental and physical game. Federico Coria, in an interview with CLAY this week, tips Fonseca as a future Top 5 player who gave him the same feeling he had when he first watched Carlos Alcaraz.
💬 Keep the Love Federico Coria, in an interview with CLAY during the Chile Open, responds to Stefanos Tsitsipas's admission that he skips South America because the financial offers aren't convincing enough. The 33yo Argentine, a former world #49 currently sidelined with an elbow injury, says the Greek is missing something money can't buy: playing in a full stadium where fans live the sport with an intensity you won't find anywhere else.
🎾 Sorry 'Bout It... Mirra Andreeva, whose Indian Wells title defense ends with a three-set loss to Katerina Siniakova, 4-6, 7-6⁵, 6-3, admits she is "not really proud" of her emotional exit from the court. (Flashback: She yelled "Fuck you all" to the crowd as she exited the stadium.) The 18yo has now surrendered late leads in three straight losses and tells reporters she plans to sit down with her team to find a way forward.

"Well, to be honest, I just sometimes get tired about playing Roger Federer every round." - Carlos Alcaraz on opponents raising their level against the world #1 ¹
"Down 5-0 in the tiebreak, I turned to my box and started complaining. They told me: 'Stop complaining, stop complaining.' And I was like, 'Don't talk to me like that.' And I finally regained my focus." - Arthur Fils on his 2nd set tiebreak comeback against Felix Auger-Aliassime ²
"Speechless. This is becoming more of a fairytale for me every single day." - Talia Gibson on her run to the Indian Wells quarterfinals ³
"She's like the Roger Federer of women's tennis." - Iga Swiatek on Karolina Muchova ahead of their 4th round meeting ⁴
"On these courts I do feel I can beat anyone on any given day." - Sonay Kartal after her comeback win over Madison Keys ⁸
"If he doesn't come, he'll miss out. Let him keep the money. We'll keep the love here." - Federico Coria on Stefanos Tsitsipas skipping South America ⁵
"Diaper change is something that gets to you and just being there was incredible, really." - Casper Ruud on early fatherhood ⁶
"A person who handled losses very well was Serena Williams. I never saw her angry or reacting badly. Even Grand Slam finals she lost, she always smiled and was happy for her rival." - Mirra Andreeva on learning to handle defeat ⁷
