⚔️ Old Rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev meet again at Indian Wells on Saturday, their third collision at this event after Alcaraz claimed both the 2023 and 2024 finals. Medvedev arrives carrying real momentum, with titles in Brisbane and Dubai this year and not a set dropped all fortnight.
🏆 Final Form Elena Rybakina advances to the Indian Wells final for the 2nd time, dispatching Elina Svitolina, 7-5, 6-4, to go 5-0 against Top 10 opponents in 2026. She awaits Aryna Sabalenka — a rematch of the Australian Open final — with her career-high #2 ranking arriving Monday regardless of the result.
🏆 Back in Business Bianca Andreescu reaches the Austin WTA 125 final, outlasting Paula Badosa, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Badosa had come to Texas to sharpen her game between Indian Wells and Miami. Andreescu had other ideas. The Canadian, a former US Open champion who has spent the better part of three years navigating injuries and inconsistency, plays for the title on Saturday.
🏆 Third Time Aryna Sabalenka accounts for Linda Noskova, 6-3, 6-4, to reach her third Indian Wells final in four years, a feat no world #1 has managed in consecutive appearances in the tournament's history. The afternoon heat pushes the courts fast, amplifying the Sabalenka serve: 11 aces, 37 winners, not a set dropped all fortnight. She and Victoria Azarenka are the only active players to have reached this final three times. Rybakina, who defeated Sabalenka in the 2023 Indian Wells final, awaits.
👀 Inner Fire Flashing back to last night, Elina Svitolina upset #2 seed Iga Swiatek, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, continuing what has become one of the season's most compelling comeback arcs. After exhaustion ended her 2025 season in September, Svitolina spent the first month of her offseason without a racket before rebuilding through video analysis and methodical work on serve and return with her coaching team. She arrives in the semifinals having won Auckland, reached the Australian Open semifinals, and finished runner-up in Dubai.
🚨 Flag Day Defending champion Jack Draper falls to Daniil Medvedev, 6-1, 7-5, after umpire Aurélie Tourte rules Draper's raised arms a hindrance at 5-5 in the 2nd set following a video challenge, reversing a point Draper had already won. Medvedev acknowledges the decision does not sit well with him but says he asked the chair umpire what his options were and let her rule. Medvedev, who has won titles in Brisbane and Dubai this year, advances to a Saturday semifinal against Carlos Alcaraz.
🎯 Bee Season Speaking of Carlos Alcaraz, he reached the Indian Wells semifinals for the 5th consecutive year last night, routing Cameron Norrie, 6-3, 6-4, to improve to 16-0 on the season and push his career win percentage to .8199, edging past Roger Federer (.8198) into 4th all-time in the Open Era. Only Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Bjorn Borg sit above him among men with 200+ ATP matches. Oh! And, after the win, Alcaraz appeared courtside in a bee costume.
🔥 No Sweat Continuing to catch up on last night's late results, Jannik Sinner makes quick work of Learner Tien, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the Indian Wells semifinals without having dropped a set all fortnight. He arrived in California a week early to acclimate to the desert heat, a factor that contributed to cramping trouble at January's Australian Open, and says the preparation paid off.
🌟 In Vogue Mattia Bellucci, the 24yo Italian lefty who plays in a bandana and loose shirts cut from the Agassi playbook, reaches the Copa Cap Cana quarterfinals after a 6-2, 6-4 win over Hubert Hurkacz. The victory is notable: the former world #6 had not played a Challenger match in seven years before this week, returning from arthroscopic right knee surgery. Bellucci, newly signed with Italian luxury brand CP Company and mid-session on a Japanese-style sleeve tattoo, is becoming one of the more distinctive personalities on the Challenger circuit.
👟 Mom Knows Best Desirae Krawczyk, a 4-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion who is of Filipino descent on her mother's side, reveals on the "Player's Box" podcast that her mom is such a devoted Alexandra Eala supporter that during Dubai, the elder Krawczyk nearly forgot her own daughter was competing that week. The mom has since offered to cook Eala pancit and lumpia at Indian Wells, and Krawczyk's co-hosts have already claimed the leftovers. Eala, who recorded her first Grand Slam main draw win at last year's US Open, has become one of the tour's most popular discoveries.

Jack Draper's Indian Wells campaign is over, but it came with enough evidence to make the rest of the field nervous about what he becomes with full health. In a piece for The Second Serve, Giri Nathan lays out the 24-year-old's return from a bone bruise on the left humerus, the technical adjustments made during eight months away (a new serve stance, a switch to gut strings), and the all-around profile that makes Draper one of the rare elite servers who is equally dangerous on return.
Tom Kershaw spent a week with world #283 Liam Broady on the Futures circuit in Portugal, and the result is one of the more honest dispatches from the bottom rung of professional tennis. Broady cracked the top 100 in 2023 only to lose six months to a fractured ankle, and is now facing down the question of whether to keep going. His answer, for now, is yes.
